SPECIAL CELEBRATIONS

1 October 2019 - Fr John Rate's funeral

Fr John Rate was the Parish Priest of Henley Beach when he passed into eternal life on 22 September 2019 following a long and brave fight with cancer.  The gift of Fr John, his ministry and his open heart were especially remembered by his family, his MSC family in Australia and beyond, the parishes he served in, by this many friends everywhere, and especially by our Henley Parish community.

Fr John spanned a journey of over 30 year with us here in Henley and his vision invited us to live our faith as missionary disciples, intentionally sharing our gifts with generous love.

Fr John’s tender love for his people changed all our lives.  Fr John died doing what he loved and where he was happiest. What he wanted most was to make a deep connection with people, and he continued to do this until his last day.

2019 Parish Multicultural Day

It was a day when we celebrated who we are, where we’ve come from and how we thrive as a parish community rich in diversity.  Everyone stood and sang our final song as we gathered around the projector to sing ‘We are Australian’.  It was a moving finish to an extraordinary community day. It was great to see so many attend and enjoy the day.  Perhaps this will become a regular event in our parish calendar??
